Library

The library of VUZF is a university library and it offers specialized scientific and academic literature from the area of economic and social sciences. It is established in 2002 with VUZF opening. The main functions of the library are to provide library and information service of the educational process, researches and cultural activity.
The library is 147 sq. m and it includes three premises: reading room, lending room and book depository. It disposes of a copying machine, 10 computers with LCD monitors, from which 8 are used from the students with Internet access. A specialized software is installed (financial-accounting programs Bulmar and Business Navigator) which is used for practical training of the students.
The reader’s places in the library are enough accordingly its attendance. It serves about 850 readers per year as the annual student visits in it are over 6000. Except by students the library is used by lecturers and employees in the higher school as well as external readers.
The library processes are completely automated. The using library software “Automated Library” fulfils the supplying, cataloging and book lending and gives complete information for the library stock by an electronic catalog. A website of the library is in process development.
The library profile is suitable to the educational disciplines in the separate educational degrees and programs from the professional direction.
The titles in the area of economics and business are selected to provide information about the most important, fundamental aspects of the learning disciplines such as micro- and macroeconomics, international economics, management of human resources, insurance, social security, finance, banking, accounting, control, auditing, marketing, management, law, European Union, etc.
 The titles in the area of information technologies include principles of computer languages, information systems, information management and other specialized literature.
 The library materials for the training in English include varied reference and other issues (Business English, English-Bulgarian and Bulgarian-English dictionaries, dictionaries of idioms and phrases, books in grammar and stylistics).
 Titles on general disciplines are chosen selectively and after consultations with the lecturers as it is provided reference information, general and historical reviews and confirmed titles in the respective areas.
 The reference apparatus presents the library stock in two aspects – formal and instructive by the supporting of an alphabetic and subject catalogue in electronic mode.
 The library supplies the following formats: books, periodical issues, CD, DVD, audiocassettes and video films. It is supplied library documents in Bulgarian and in foreign languages – English, French, German, Russian and others, according to the reader’s demand and to the point of use of the library units. The titles in foreign languages supply the library stock on issues of contemporary Bulgarian economics and politics.
 The distribution of the available library units to 31.12.2008 according to the language is as it follows: 5235 in Bulgarian, 359 in Russian, 214 in English and 27 in other languages. A part of the library units in Bulgarian are translated literature.
 The titles are supplied basically by purchase with funds from the budget of VUZF. A part of the library units are gifts from other universities and institutions, as well as from individual donors, including lecturers and employees in the higher school. The donors are honored with a special diploma in a mark of gratitude and sympathy for the supplying of the library stock of the school.
 Subscription to periodicals is annually made, as their selection is realized on the basis of three criteria: a connection with educational disciplines and necessary general culture of the students, availability of free internet use and connection with the future professional realization of the students.
 The periodicals in Bulgarian are: Economic Thought, Capital, Banker, Pari, Economic Life, Dnevnik, Insurer Press, Banks Investments Money, The Financial Market, Manager, Human Resources, BNB bulletins and others. The periodicals in English are: The Economist, Business Week, Risk Management Magazine, PC World, PC Magazine.
 VUZF library keeps up contacts with the academic libraries of UNWE, D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics – Svishtov, University of Economics – Varna, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, American University in Blagoevgrad, New Bulgarian University, Varna Free University and European College of Economics and Management – Plovdiv.
 Users of the services of VUZF library can be students, lecturers, VUZF employees, as well as external users. For the purpose the following documents are required:

For students: ID card, student’s record book (countersigned for the respective semester) and recent photograph.
For lecturers and employees of VUZF: ID card and recent photograph.
For external users: for one-day access to the library they present ID card and pay one-off fee.

The bookstore of VUZF is 20 sq. m and offers varied academic and reference literature. It disposes of a computer with LCD monitor and multi-functional copying machine, which is connected with the computers in the library. This enables people using the library to print out files from internet or from USB devices.
