• Transportation from the airport:

Once you are admitted to the university you will have to plan your travel to Sofia. Please, try to book a flight that arrives during the week. In addition, keep in mind that the working day of the university administrative staff starts at  8.30 am and finishes at 17 pm.
If you send us in advance your travel information, our representative will pick you up from the airport during the indicated hours.

If you scheduled your arrival during the weekends or late evening, we recommend that you take a taxi. O'Key Supertrans AD is the only taxi company authorised by the Sofia Airport. The company's office is located in Arrivals hall near by the taxi rank.
We recommend that you make an order in the office before you take a taxi.
A company employee will give you an application, in which the date, the hour, the registration of the car and the quantity of luggage will be written, after which he will personally place you in the car.
The distance between Sofia Airport to downtown is about 15 km, which means approximately BGN 1
by the taxi counter.

• Clothing:

Situated on an open plain only 1804 feet (550m) above sea level and ringed in by the Balkan and Vitosha Mountains, summers days in Sofia are warm and sunny with temperatures occasionally soaring above 86ºF (30ºC). Winters are cold and snowy. December and January are the coldest months and July and August are the hottest months. The capital receives 25.6 inches (650mm) a year with most rain falling in the summer months.
For the winter and fall periods we suggest that you bring with you an umbrella, raincoat and waterproof shoes or boots. Bring a warm jacket, gloves, and hat for the winter months.
Many VUZF students dress casually when they attend classes, but you may wish to bring
some formal clothes for special occasions and events.

• Life in Sofia:

You can find very useful information in the Sofia life guide that will be sent to you via e-mail before your departure to Bulgaria. The guide will help you with information about restaurants, hotels, cafeterias, nightlife, sightseeing, events and maps.

• Where can I get a meal:

There is also a cafeteria situated on the first floor near the entrance of the VUZF building. Open hours: Monday to Friday: 7am – 17pm; Saturday and Sunday: 7am – 15pm

• Internet access:

If you do not have your own computer you can feel free to use the computers in the VUZF Library situated on the first floor near the entrance of the VUZF building.

• What about money?

You will need to open a bank account. Please, keep in mind that opening an account may take time. There are usually specific requirements when opening accounts, so make sure you ask what is needed, generally this will include: ID or passport, admission acknowledgement letter from the university confirming you study there and including your name, date of birth, university address, your address in Bulgaria and your home address. Once you open a bank account you will be given a bank certificate needed for your Bulgarian ID to be issued (Bulgarian law requirement).
